Once you have children of your own, Father’s Day can get quite busy! Not only do you want to show your own dad just how much you appreciate everything he has done for you, the father of your children deserves a little spoiling, too — although, you could just expect him to be satisfied with the paper neckties your kids made him at school.

So, you have some shopping to do! Funny enough… Fathers Day comes every year in June but here you are without a gift when the Day of Dad is just over a week away! (don’t worry, I’m not here to judge you. This blog post was inspired by my own lack of plans or a gift.) To make your Father’s Day planning just a little bit easier, we’ve listed our favorite places in Calgary to find unique ideas and gifts for expressing your gratitude.

There is something inside 9th avenue’s Kent of Inglewood for gentlemen and ruffians alike. With a motto about men should be men or something like that, Kent of Inglewood’s pleasant shop-keep staff have a passion for the classics. Masculine grooming products abound, artistically forged axes adorn the walls (I hear there is going to be an ax throwing event at the Calgary Stampede this year!), and one of a kind straight razors fill the spotless glass cases — ask to see the mammoth tusk! Chinook City Doulas recommends the Straight Razor Shaving Classes and a gift certificate packed into a dopp bag that Dad can fill with his favorite beard grooming items and mustache waxes.

Because craft beer.

I’m not recommending you get your dad a six-pack at the neighborhood liquor store. Give the special men in your life a beer experience and send them on an hour long Village Brewery tour! Village Brewery is an amazing company driven by social responsibility and passion for good, make that great beer. Tours are $15/person and run on Saturday afternoons. You can book through their contact page and tours include a tasting of all their current beers, a pint of Dad’s favorite one and a custom made Village Brewery pint glass!

Mountain Equipment Co-op has been in Calgary since 1977. If your dad is passionate about the wilderness and prefers to spend his time hiking, kayaking, backpacking, or biking you will find the perfect gift for his next nature adventure amonst their wares. When Calgarians want the highest quality wilderness gear for the best price they head to MEC. A lifetime membership is just $5. We love the PACK RAT COMPRESSION STUFF SACK, useful for outdoorsmen and travelers alike (even if your dad only travels for business).

#geekdads will know exactly how much they mean to you when they receive a gift from Redd Skull Comics! Search their online inventory database for that back issue comic book he’s been lusting for or choose a Father’s Day gift from their selection of figurines and miniatures. They also stock a full selection of Star Wars collectors items. You can’t go wrong with Star Wars on Father’s Day since you know, he is your father.

If you’d like to take Dad out for Father’s Day Brunch in the City of Calgary we suggest you enjoy eating at Heritage Park. Brunch is being held inside the Gasoline Alley Museum, You just can’t go wrong with vintage cars and the menu is drool worthy! Spend the day with Dad enjoying Heritage Park’s historical exhibits, ride the train, play on the midway and end the day with some retro candy that’s sure to make him feel like a kid again!

We wish all of the Dad’s in Calgary a very happy Father’s Day!
